Project 1: New Skills

In this project you will make good on your commitment to develop one of the skills you identified as important for your future market viability. You will spend two weeks on this project with a midpoint report due in class at the one week mark and a final review due in class at the end of the two weeks.

Objective

Make substantive and measurable progress in developing a skill to add to your resume. For example,

  • Learn to program an Arduino using this short course
  • Learn Agile project management skills and implement them in one of your projects.
  • Write and submit an abstract to a conference.
  • Produce a two minute video that explains a physics concept.
  • Interview an alumnus in physics who might be able to provide you with career advice and networking support.
  • Build a LinkedIn account with a full set of attributes and connect to at least 50 people in your field/area.
  • Find an opportunity to speak about something to a local high school; schedule and plan this activity. Record your presentation.
  • Learn a project Communication tool such as Slack and use it in one of your projects/leadership activities on campus.

You will present the project and your progress on it in a 10-minute presentation to the class during the class meeting one week after the assignment. You will present the final status of the project in a 10-minute presentation to the class during the class meeting two weeks after the assignment.
